Can I use the 64-bit version of VantagePoint?

We strongly encourage you to use the 64-bit version of VantagePoint if your computer has a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or higher. By default, only the 64-bit edition of VPv12 is available for download, but a 32-bit version of the software is still available upon request.  The 64-bit version can use more RAM than the 32-bit version, which will let you analyze larger datasets faster and most modern systems are capable of running 64-bit software. How do I upgrade?

Reminder #1: Copy your VantagePoint Registration Code to a safe place before starting.  You might need to enter it again to activate VantagePoint.  To see your Registration Code, start VantagePoint, go to the Help menu, and click "Manage License". Copy Registration Code

Reminder #2: There are three ways to access the VantagePoint download page.  You can log in using your User Name and Password, or (more easily) in VantagePoint, go to the Help Menu and click "Visit Downloads Page ...", or click "VantagePoint downloads" in the Analyst Guide.

Reminder #3: If you download in VP, we recommend clicking "Save" (not "Run").  Close VantagePoint before installing the new version.

Reminder #4: Install VantagePoint using Administrator permissions.

Reminder #5:  The first time a user launches VantagePoint they must use the shortcut installed to the Start menu so Windows Installer can configure settings.

SAVE not RUN

NOTE:  You can run the VPv12 installer to upgrade your VPv11 installation regardless of whether you had the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Version 11 installed.  It is NOT necessary to uninstall a 32-bit version of Version 11 to upgrade to 64-bit VPv12.

 If you are:

  • Upgrading from VPv11 to VPv12
    1. Go to the VantagePoint downloads page
    2. Download the new version, and
    3. Install the new version.   Important Note: Make sure VantagePoint is not running when you begin the installation.
    4. Enter your VantagePoint Registration Code if prompted to do so.

If you are taking an upgrade path beginning from version 10.0 or earlier, then you should:

    1. Go to the VantagePoint downloads page
    2. Download the new version
    3. Uninstall VantagePoint, and then
    4. Install the new version.
    5. Enter your VantagePoint Registration Code to activate the license.

Can VPv12 read my VPT files created with VPv11?

Yes - Version 12 can open any VPT files created in v7.0 or later.  If the VPT file was created in VantagePoint Version 11, visualizations should display and function properly, but will not support the new sticky note and style features added in version 12. You must re-create these browser sheets with the updated scripts included in your version 12 installation to enable these capabilities. Many browser sheets created in versions 10 and earlier will not function, and will need to be recreated with version 12.

Can the earlier version VPv11 (and the v11 Reader) view files created with VPv12 or later?

Older versions of VantagePoint will NOT be able to read files created OR SAVED by version 12 or later.

Can I have VPv12 and VPv11 installed at the same time?

No. Version 12 is intended to replace version 11 and features such as functions of the scripts menu and updating import filters, macros, and thesauri, will not work correctly if both versions are installed. For this reason, concurrent installations of version 12 and any earlier version are not supported.

If we don't update right now, how long will you support the older versions?

We have stopped supporting versions 10, but we will provide limited support for version 11 until the next major release (several months). If you need to request a macro or filter for version 11, please remind us of the version ahead of time. There are a lot of helpful things in v12 that are not backwards compatible.
